Serang, November 15, 2025—PATTIRO, in collaboration with PATTIRO Banten and the Banten Provincial Environment and Forestry Agency (DLHK), held a public discussion themed “Women’s Contribution to Environmental Preservation” via a live broadcast on Instagram on Friday (14/11). The discussion highlighted the strategic role of women in driving environmental management and strengthening the circular economy at the community level.
Desty Eka Putri, CEO of the Digital Waste Bank (BSD) and concurrently Head of the Aisyiyah Serang Regency Environmental and Disaster Management Council, attended as a speaker. The event was moderated by Bella Rusmiyanti from PATTIRO Banten.

Desty revealed that since its establishment in 2020, BSD has rapidly grown into a significant community movement in the Serang and Cilegon regions. Currently, BSD manages 250 unit points with 6,600 members, 98 percent of whom are women. Desty emphasized that women, who have a close connection to the domestic sphere, are key actors in driving behavioral change in waste sorting and reduction.
“Environmental transformation starts from home, and the role of women is crucial in this. They not only manage waste but also lead circular economy practices at the family and community level,” Desty explained.
BSD implements a digital-based management system, ranging from cashless recording, savings applications, to distribution to recycling industry partners. Nevertheless, BSD also provides manual passbooks to ensure inclusivity for residents without digital access.
“This innovation brings three main impacts: environmental preservation, community empowerment, and increased family economy. We even managed to help communities survive during the pandemic,” she added.
BSD also opens opportunities for the public to join as customers, volunteers, or interns in the Serang and Cilegon areas.
Part of the HMPI 2025 Series
Bella Rusmiyanti, as the moderator, stated that this activity is part of the series of events for the Indonesian Tree Planting Day (HMPI). This activity is a collaboration between PATTIRO, PATTIRO Banten, and the Banten Provincial Environment and Forestry Agency (DLHK), and is supported by various industries in Banten. The event carries the theme “Green Collaboration: Moving Together with Industry and Society to Plant for a Sustainable Banten,” the peak of which will be held on December 4, 2025. Furthermore, this event also serves as the moment for the selection of the “Climate Woman” figure in Banten.
“We are witnessing a very concerning decline in Banten’s Environmental Quality Index. Therefore, the involvement of women in policy and community movements is highly strategic to strengthen environmental recovery efforts,” said Bella.
Diskusi ini diharapkan dapat mendorong kolaborasi multipihak yang berkelanjutan dalam upaya melestarikan lingkungan di Banten.
The HMPI 2025 event in Banten Province serves as an excellent momentum to raise awareness and concern about the importance of tree planting in maintaining ecosystem balance, reducing pollution, and providing other ecological benefits. Furthermore, HMPI also serves as a momentum to invite the public, government, and private sector to collaborate in reforestation, greening, and environmental preservation programs.
PATTIRO Executive Director, Fitria Muslih, views positively the collaboration between the government, CSOs, and companies in organizing HMPI 2025 in Banten Province. Fitria sees this collaboration as a good step to initiate cooperation in protecting the environment in Banten Province. “This collaboration will strengthen efforts, broaden impact, and ensure sustainability in environmental preservation efforts in Banten province, considering that we cannot work alone; these three important elements (government, private sector, and CSOs) must work together,” she stated.
Indonesia Tree Planting Day (HMPI) is a national observance that falls every November 28th in Indonesia. This momentum is celebrated as a form of awareness and an invitation to the public to take action in planting trees as an effort to preserve the living environment. The observance of HMPI aims to increase concern for the importance of trees in life, such as maintaining ecosystem balance, reducing pollution, and providing other ecological benefits.
This observance also serves as a momentum to invite the public, government, and private sector to collaborate in reforestation, greening, and environmental preservation programs. Furthermore, HMPI also reminds us of the importance of individual and community contributions in preserving nature for future generations.
