Summary

This is the preface to a guidebook on Public Information Disclosure published by PATTIRO. The book stems from the recognition that access to information is a human right (recognized by the UN since 1946, guaranteed under Article 28F of Indonesia's 1945 Constitution, and reinforced by Public Information Disclosure Law No. 14 of 2008), yet grassroots communities — due to geographic remoteness, low education levels, and limited awareness — still struggle to access information.

The book is intended as:

• A practical guide for grassroots citizens, particularly members of the community centers PATTIRO has established in its partner regions, as well as the general public
• Part of a series of community center guidebooks previously published by PATTIRO
• A means of socializing Law No. 14/2008, which took effect in April 2010, presented in simple, straightforward language

Its content includes concrete examples of how to request information, file complaints with Public Bodies, and lodge disputes with the Information Commission, along with real stories of residents in several partner regions who have put this into practice. The author closes with thanks to family, the PATTIRO team, community center partners, the editor, the illustrator, and others who supported the book's publication, while remaining open to readers' feedback.
