Special Committee for the Village Bill Agreed on Two Types of Villages

Special Committee (Pansus) for the Village Bill began to take steps by making several agreements with the government, including making a classification of villages.

“The DPR and the government have agreed to classify villages. There are villages and traditional villages,” said F-PAN Special Committee member Totok Daryanto to JurnalParlemen, Wednesday (10/4).

Totok said, the inclusion of traditional villages in this bill is a form of appreciation for villages and indigenous peoples. However, in order to continue to give a touch of democracy, checks and balances will still be activated. “Only the village head recruitment is different,” he said.

Then in the Village Bill, the village will also be used as a source of national development. Therefore, the function of the village is enhanced. According to Totok, the Special Committee also agreed that the APBN would provide a budget for each village. “But the amount has not been determined,” he added.

Totok said this would have an impact on the realignment of the village as an economic and social asset.

In addition to the Village Bill, the DPR is also discussing two bills that touch indigenous peoples, namely the Indigenous Peoples Protection Bill and the Forest Destruction Eradication Bill (P2H). According to Totok, these three bills will not collide with each other. “Because the Village Bill focuses on villages,” he said.

Therefore, against the existing legislation and those that are being discussed, everything will be synchronized. Totok hopes that the Village Bill will be completed at the same time as the Regional Government Bill, which is next September.
