Mahfud MD: We must not be afraid of experimenting

Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Mahfud MD assessed that decentralization in Indonesia has more construction based on events experienced. For example, regional autonomy that began in 1999 is an antithesis of the centralized style of the New Order leadership. “It should be arranged seriously from his basic ideas,” said the figure who was predicted to be one of the candidates for the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the 2014 election. When answering Pattiro’s question the extent to which the decentralization level changes can occur, Mahfud answered he himself did not know to what extent and until When will Indonesia find the right format.

“To be sure, the Indonesian people must be prepared to experiment, so do not ever feel finished. If it is lacking yes added new elements in decentralization,” said the man born in Sampang, on Wednesday (11/27) in the midst of his busy schedule at the MMD Secretariat Center in the Matraman area, Central Jakarta.

On the same occasion, Mahfud appreciated the efforts of PATTIRO who since 1999 oversees the decentralization process in terms of service users (demand side) and the government as a supplier of public services (supply side). Pattiro also explained various achievements in the community and government in 3 focus areas, namely public services, public policy, and management of public budgets. Such as the formation of a citizen forum, improvement of complaint mechanisms, and support for open government partnership.
