Anticipating the Future of Agriculture, Jatinom Village Holds Training

2018-PATTIRO-PELATIHAN-DESA-JATINOM1The most obvious impact of climate change in the agricultural sector is damage (degradation) and a decrease in the quality of land and water resources, agricultural infrastructure, a decrease in production and productivity of food crops, which will result in threats of vulnerability and insecurity to food security. If not anticipated, this condition will increase the poverty rate. How devastating the socio-economic impacts will be if the agricultural sector is not anticipated.

In an effort to anticipate the future of agriculture in the village, PATTIRO carries out replication work outside the program work area which is supported by the APIK (Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience) program.

“Replication is carried out in villages that are potentially vulnerable to climate change, to support strengthening the community and village government in dealing with climate change in Blitar Regency.” said Imam Karya Bakti, Program Manager of PATTIRO.

Program replication activities were carried out in Jatinom Village, Kanigoro District, Blitar Regency. The Village Government is pleased to hold training for farmer groups in making organic fertilizer, which was carried out on January 30 2018 at the Jatinom Village Integrated Waste Management site. This activity aims to improve the ability of Human Resources (HR), especially the ability of farmers in Jatinom to face climate change through the application of adapted technology for making organic fertilizer. Present on this occasion were Bappeda, the Environmental Service and PPL of the Blitar Regency Agriculture Service.

“Through this training, we hope that farmers can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, towards environmentally friendly agriculture,” said Taufik, Head of Jatinom Village. The Jatinom Village Head believes that in efforts to adapt to climate change, the use of biotechnology in the field of plant cultivation needs to be considered in order to increase the productivity of food crops, plantations, horticulture and so on, while maintaining the main goal of improving the welfare of farmers in Jatinom.
