In Kompas Daily, Wednesday, 13 August 2014 edition, Djohermansyah Djohan, Director General of Regional Autonomy of the Ministry of Home Affairs, stated that in the last 9 (nine) years, from 2005 to 1 July 2014, 3,169 members of provincial and district/city DPRDs have been entangled in corruption . In addition, 284 regional heads and deputy regional heads were added, as well as 1,221 civil servants. To prevent corruption by DPRD members, Djohermansyah stated, there wasn't much the government could do. "All that can be done is to remind them not to be corrupt."
"Supervision of DPRD members when they take office depends a lot on the internal DPRD itself, non-governmental organizations, and the community. Community participation is particularly important,” said the Director General of Otoda Kemdagri.
This statement by Djohermansyah Djohan, Director General of Regional Autonomy, Ministry of Home Affairs, indicates the Government's surrender to the phenomenon of rampant acts of corruption committed by one of the elements of regional government administration. That statement indicates the attitude of the Government as a manifestation of the public policy it has adopted.
