BPJS Minimal Socialization

The government and the Health Sector Social Security Administration Agency (BPJS) are considered to be minimal in socializing the national health insurance program to the public. In fact, since January 1 2014, the national health insurance program has been implemented.

This assessment was conveyed by the Budget and Gender Coordinator of the Regional Information Research Center (PATTIRO) Banten Panji Bahari Noor Romadhon, Tuesday (1/10). “The readiness of the government and BPJS, namely PT Askes to run this program is still questionable. The process of outreach to the community, both in the form of programs and health facilities in clinics and hospitals that work with BPJS, is not known by the wider community,” said Panji. Therefore, he said, this would raise doubts for the public to seek treatment at good health facilities, and in the end it would have an impact on lower levels of health. He said the readiness of health facilities in Banten still had to be questioned. According to him, this is if you pay attention to some of the reports that have occurred regarding the rejection of patients participating in JAMKESDA (those who can’t afford it). “This shows the facilities and infrastructure of health facilities in Banten must be further improved. The remaining three months must be maximized to complete facilities and infrastructure,” he said.

The BPJS, he said, must provide instructions to cooperating health service providers to socialize the program and procedures for becoming program participants. At a minimum, he said, by putting up a notification banner in front of the building, as mandated by the Public Information Disclosure Law which requires public bodies to provide periodic information to the public.

“The general public’s ignorance of this program is proof that the national health insurance program is still limited and its socialization has not been widespread, so that the benefits of the program will not be felt by the whole community,” he said.

He said the enactment of the BPJS Law was the most awaited thing for all Indonesian people. “This law mandates the state to fulfill basic services for all. As mandated in Law no. 40 of 2004 concerning the Social Security System,” he said.

He revealed, with the issuance of Law no. 24 of 2011 concerning Social Security Administering Bodies and Presidential Regulation No. 12 of 2013 concerning Health Insurance, all people without exception are entitled to health insurance benefits which include promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services including drug services and consumable medical materials in accordance with the necessary medical needs.

“An encouraging news for underprivileged people with this legal umbrella, access to health services is open as much as possible,” he said.

Previously, the Head of the Banten Health Service, Djaja Budi Suhardja, stated that the form of improving public health services included the operation of the Banten Hospital.
He said the operation of the Banten Hospital was also a form of welcoming the enactment of the BPJS Law on 1 January 2014. (H-32)*** (quoted from http://www.kabar-banten.com/news/detail/15448)
