Statement of Attitude of the Indonesian People’s Movement Confederation (KPRI) No: 12.01/PS-KPRI/VII/2014

“Urge the Active Role of the KPU in Vote Counting for the 2014 Presidential Election!”

Greetings Movement,

The emergence of claims of victory from each side of the presidential candidates, who took part in the 2014 Presidential Election (Pilpres), has certainly created confusion in the community. The victory claims of each presidential candidate camp are based on different quick count results issued by survey institutions. This shows that the quick count, which should be a scientific contribution to society in monitoring vote counts, has been used as a political tool to mislead information to the public.

Various irregularities with the survey institute’s quick count that won Prabowo Subianto were also revealed in several mass media. The maneuvers of the bourgeois political elites who supported the rise of the New Order were willing to use any means to win over their candidates, even to prostitute the scientific values of quick counts, by misleading information for the sake of politics and power.

Apart from the many irregularities in the survey institute’s quick count, public opinion is currently being led to wait for the official announcement of the recapitulation of vote counting results from the competent state institution, namely the General Elections Commission (KPU). However, there were several irregularities in the temporary vote count (form C1) which stopped at the kpu.go.id site because it displayed invalid data. In addition, there are also several C1 forms which only display a column with an empty number of votes. Even though the C1 forms had been affixed with the signatures of KPPS members and witnesses of the candidate pairs. Abnormalities in vote counting by the KPU also occurred abroad, particularly in Malaysia, where the number of votes entered was twice that of the Final Voters List (DPT). The inflated vote mostly won the presidential candidate pair Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa.

This is where the KPU’s credibility is tested and at stake, bearing in mind that the enthusiasm of citizens who decided to exercise their right to vote in the 2014 presidential election increased sharply. The KPU predicts that the number of voters in the 2014 presidential election will reach 190 million people, an increase from 185 million people in the April 9 legislative elections. The number of ‘white group’ (abstentions) in the 2014 presidential election is also predicted to experience a very sharp decline. With such high citizen enthusiasm, the KPU should be able to exercise its authority as well as possible and maintain its credibility before the public.

KPU must guarantee that the holding of the 2014 Presidential Election will be free from political fraud. The KPU should open access as wide as possible to the vote counting process which is currently under way

takes place to the public, both the vote counting process at the sub-district, sub-district, city/regency, provincial and national levels.

Therefore, we from the Confederation of the Indonesian People’s Movement (KPRI) expressed our position:

  1. The KPU must guarantee that the vote counting process that is being carried out is free from fraud and free from intimidation by any party;
  2. Urge the Central KPU to order all KPU at city/regency level to publicly announce the results of the vote counting plenary for each city/regency on 16-17 July 2014;
  3. Urge the Central KPU to order all KPU at the provincial level to publicly announce the results of the vote counting plenary for each province on 18-19 July 2014;
  4. Invite the entire community and all elements of the people’s movement to supervise and monitor the vote counting process, starting from the village level to the national level;
  5. The state must protect and guarantee the fulfillment of political rights for all Indonesian people;
  6. Build unity and solidarity of all elements of the people to realize true sovereignty, independence and prosperity for the Indonesian people.
