The Freedom of Information Network Indonesia coalition carried out the sealing at the Central Information Commission (KIP) office, Jalan Abdul Muis, Central Jakarta.

The sealing which was carried out on Wednesday (5/6/2013) was a form of disappointment towards the President who was slow in processing the selection of KIP commissioners for the 2013-2017 period. This is because the term of office of KIP commissioners for the 2009-2013 period expired on June 2.

“We are doing this, not making KIP drop even more. But this sealing effort is not that we are disappointed with KIP but with the President, because we repeatedly communicated and even visited the Watimpres but there was no follow-up,” said a coalition member from ICW, Tama S Lungkun at the KIP office, Jakarta.

Then, continued Tama, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) instead of prioritizing the public interest to speed up the selection process for KIP commissioners, instead preferred traveling abroad to hunt for awards.

“He (SBY) abroad actually traded Information Disclosure in Indonesia abroad, even though it is not in accordance with the conditions that exist here (Indonesia),” he said.

For this reason, together with the coalition, they demand first, asking the President to speed up the process of selecting KIP members which he said are already in the DPR. Second, the President apologizes to the people of Indonesia, because he has claimed that information disclosure is going well and is claimed to have received an award abroad.

“Third, it’s a matter of time, don’t use this as a protector for KIP’s negligence, but this is a form of responsibility, but if the Presidential Decree is extended, then KIP must also resolve dispute cases,” he said.

Then, the fourth demand, his party asked the President to strongly reprimand the Minister of Communication and Information, Tifatul Sembiring, because the selection results were not informed to the public, instead it seemed as if they were hidden.

As is known, from the selection of KIP commissioners submitted to the President in April 2013, there were 21 names. Where the names will be re-selected into 7 names. However, later it was stated that it was already in the DPR, but it is known that the name was only submitted to the DPR on 31 May 2013.

In fact, the commissioner’s term ends on June 2 2013. This means that this will result in a vacancy for the KIP commissioner which will disrupt the course of various dispute hearings which should be the right of the public to obtain public information.
